Linda Lovelace (1949–2002), born Linda Susan Boreman, achieved international fame for her starring role in the 1972 film Deep Throat, which became the first adult film to achieve mainstream commercial success. The film sparked the 'porno chic' phenomenon and generated estimated box office revenue of $600 million. Later in life, Lovelace became a prominent anti-pornography activist and author, publicly detailing her experience of coercion and abuse in her autobiography Ordeal. She spoke candidly about exploitation by her ex-husband Chuck Traynor and advocated against the adult film industry until her death in 2002.
